50 students from HAK HAS Rudigierstrasse took part in a pilot project to raise intercultural awareness. The background is the global situation characterized by wars and crises, which particularly concerns young people. The project aims to enable an examination of world events beyond regular history lessons so that young people can develop a differentiated view of historically developed conflicts, such as those in the Middle East.
Possibilities for action shown
In the workshops with the educational scientist Alma Mannsberger and the writer Vladimir Vertlib, everyday racism, anti-Semitism and tolerance in society were discussed using scenic representation and creative writing and options for action were shown. Together they worked on frustration tolerance, violence prevention and intercultural competence. The project was supported by the city of Linz. “The positive feedback shows that the workshops meet young people’s need for discussion about origins, belonging and values. We are therefore planning to continue this project that promotes integration,” said Deputy Mayor Blöchl.
