Next speeding car confiscated in Austria

A heavily intoxicated driver drove through the town area in the Montafon valley on Wednesday afternoon at more than 140 km/h on the L188. In doing so, he also endangered a police patrol in oncoming traffic, the executive said. After he was stopped, the driver’s driver’s license was temporarily confiscated and he was reported. In addition, the first confiscation of a speeding car was announced in Vorarlberg.

Since March 1st, based on the 34th amendment to the Road Traffic Act (StVO), speeders can have their vehicle confiscated on the spot if they exceed the speed limit and subsequently auctioned off. The amendment provides for the temporary confiscation of vehicles if the maximum permitted speed is exceeded by more than 60 km/h in the local area or by more than 70 km/h outside the local area. There have also been temporary confiscations in other federal states – such as Vienna and Lower Austria.
