It is not the case that the city of Steyr is now taking on 27 new employees because it has mercy on a handful of people who have had bad luck on the job market. The long-term unemployed, who start a job at the magistrate on December 20th, a few days before Christmas, can do something and have a lot to do professionally. “Half a year ago we worked with the AMS to select candidates who have the knowledge and training for tasks where we need them,” says Mayor Markus Vogl (SP).
According to the joint action “Job-Restart” with the AMS and the state of Upper Austria, the selected 27 applicants will initially begin a one-year employment contract.
“If a person concerned recommends himself through his performance, you will be able to think about taking him over to the staff of the magistrate in the long term,” says Vogl: “In addition, it is much easier for those who may not be taken on then, to move from one job to a new job than out of unemployment. ” The new employees, who work in various areas – from administration to handicrafts in city companies – are also accompanied when they re-enter professional life. The AMS provides coaches for them.
The campaign for the 27 affected long-term unemployed, who will get the longed-for job just before Christmas, is also lucrative for the city. Due to the funding framework of the state and the AMS, the city only has a remaining item of 340,000 euros to finance the total costs of 905,000 euros.
