The Russian Foreign Ministry announced the unfreezing of part of the WB funds for the needs of Afghanistan

If a humanitarian catastrophe occurs in Afghanistan, the whole world will blame the United States for this, and the American administration has begun to understand this. This was stated on Friday, December 17, by the special representative of the President of Russia, director of the Second Department of Asia of the Russian Foreign Ministry Zamir Kabulov.

“They understand that if a humanitarian catastrophe occurs, the whole world will blame the United States for it. Therefore, it was with difficulty, but it was possible to agree to unfreeze part of the World Bank’s funds. Initially, they wanted to unfreeze 500 million, but in the end it resulted in 280 million for humanitarian aid, “- quotes the words of the diplomat” RIA Novosti “.

Earlier, on December 1, Kabulov said that the military-political situation in Afghanistan is relatively stable, but the fight against IS (the organization is recognized as terrorist and banned in the Russian Federation) continues.

On November 17, the head of the UN mission in Afghanistan, Deborah Lyons, said that representatives of the Taliban (the organization is under UN sanctions for terrorist activities) are unable to cope with the growth of a terrorist organization in Afghanistan.

At the same time, Russia’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzya, noted that the threat of the spread of terrorism and drugs from Afghanistan to neighboring countries is real. He expressed the hope that the Taliban will continue to deliver on their promises to eradicate these challenges.

The situation in Afghanistan began to worsen after the US, which had been in the country since 2001, began withdrawing its troops in early May and completed it in August. On August 15, representatives of the Taliban movement (under UN sanctions for terrorist activities) took Kabul. They announced the end of the war in Afghanistan, calling it the liberation of the country.
