Students stayed away from school for fear of quarantine

“You are on strike. You stay at home. Not out of fear of the virus, but out of fear of having to go back into quarantine,” one parent told the “Tiroler Tageszeitung”. According to the Education Directorate, this is not an isolated case.

The segregation expired on December 15th. “So just before Christmas, neither students nor parents want to risk having to spend the festival in quarantine,” said Education Director Paul Gappmaier about the case. This is not an isolated case. At another school, with reference to a possible quarantine or infection, parents put pressure on a school director at Christmas to switch to distance learning. The school is a safe place, nowhere else is so much tested.

There was also great anger among the teachers, it said. Of the five teachers, all had been vaccinated, some recovered and vaccinated, and one vaccinated three times, i.e. boosted. Here, too, strict rules apply at Omikron, i.e. 14 days of quarantine. For Education State Councilor Beate Palfrader (ÖVP) apparently not understandable, especially with regard to boosted people: “Boosted people cannot be treated in the same way as unvaccinated people in terms of quarantine”.

According to the report, a student at the high school was infected with the corona virus on December 1. The student had mild symptoms, six days later it turned out that it was the omicron variant. Finally, the entire class and the student had to quarantine. Nobody in the class had tested positive.
