Those who were declared dead live longer: After the traditional fashion store Gerard on Welser Stadtplatz closed at the beginning of the year, a successor has now been secured. The Vöcklabruck entrepreneur Theresa Walla and her team are celebrating their reopening in the middle of the year. “We are very happy. Customers should have the feeling of coming home again,” says the 52-year-old.
Walla has known the former owners, Gerhard and Edith Schmidtmayer, for a long time: she has been working in fashion wholesale for several years and has been running the Texco fashion agency for two years. Gerard was one of their best customers until the Schmidtmayers closed their business after 40 years and retired. “At the end of 2023 we spoke on the phone and I said what a shame I thought that was. Then Mr. Schmidtmayer suggested that I could take over. That’s how it happened,” says Walla.
The store will keep the usual name, and the range will also remain true to the previous style: “We have reintroduced many brands, but there are also some new products,” announces Walla.
Orders for clothing from the fall collection have already been completed. “When we open exactly depends on when we have enough goods. Deliveries come in June and July, and we will open in July at the latest,” explains the new owner.
Employees taken over
Customers are greeted by familiar faces: the two employees Augustine Ecker and Sandra Hochhauser return. “That was an important argument for us for the takeover. The saleswomen play a central role in a business like this,” says the entrepreneur. She and her agency employee Annemarie Sturm will also be in the business: “But we also have obligations in the agency. We are looking for an additional employee in the medium term.”
The entrepreneur is enthusiastic about Wels: “The city center is very beautiful and lively.” She’s looking forward to experiencing the fashion industry from a different perspective: “Just ordering the goods was incredibly interesting. I’m really looking forward to hearing what customers give us.” (vaba)
