It is well known that Upper Austria has five quarters with the Salzkammergut. Likewise, a sixth quarter is added once a year: Vienna. On June 22nd, 2024. On this day, the Upper Austrian Ball presented by the OÖN will once again be a cultural and traditional highlight of the year.
The ball evening, where Upper Austria sets the tone in Vienna, has a tradition that can be traced back to the 19th century. It all started with a dance party around 1887 for Upper Austrians “Emigrants” in Vienna, which was organized by the Association of Upper Austrians in Vienna. The reason is still the same today: to celebrate the connection to the home state.

The ball is taking place as a summer ball for the fourth time – and in a dignified atmosphere: Vienna City Hall is opening its doors to ball guests again this year. “landlord” This evening it is not the Mayor of Vienna, Michael Ludwig, whose wife comes from the Mühlviertel, but rather the Governor Thomas Stelzer, who is on “a very special celebration” happy. The “most beautiful sides of our state” would be brought to the fore on this day.
Both the cultural capital of Bad Ischl – Salzkammergut and the Anton Bruckner Cultural Expo shape this year’s edition of the Upper Austrian Ball. The motto of the opening ceremony is therefore fitting: “And I want to dance with Anton…” is performed by the St. Florian Boys’ Choir and Silk Fluegge.
The night is also varied. Musicians from all over Upper Austria will organize the evening. Included: “Pepe’s Woodstock Dance Orchestra”the DJ duo “2:days:beard”the swing formation “The Rats Are Back” Johnny Rockers, “Part music”the Schönering Music Association and many more.
Enjoyment should not be neglected either: partner companies of the Genussland Upper Austria and the Linz institution “Leberkas Pepi” serve delicacies for every palate.
