The 56-year-old from the Eferding district was driving his car on the B133 from Kirchberg-Thening towards Alkoven around 10 p.m. According to his own statements, a car came towards him in the town of Au at a speed that was clearly too high. As a result, the man swerved his car and crashed into a stream bed on the right. The car came to rest on its side. The 56-year-old was able to free himself from the vehicle and get help.
Police officers found clear signs of alcoholism in the driver and an alcohol test was positive. The man’s driver’s license was confiscated. He was taken to the UKH Linz with injuries. He was unable to provide any further information about the oncoming car and its driver.
The Kirchberg-Thening fire department was busy clearing up the accident site until midnight. The car was pulled out of the ditch using a winch. In addition, contaminated soil had to be dug up and the roadway cleaned.
