The “Upper Austria file” on the Nordstern Arena, the planned cross-country skiing center in the Mühlviertel, which doesn’t really want to budge, has kicked up a lot of dust. In Bad Leonfelden there are divided opinions about the plans. Some see it as a sportily sensible and environmentally friendly project. The others paint the ecological devil on the wall. Now the citizens have their say and Mayor Thomas Wolfesberger hopes for a “back to constructive cooperation”.
Citizen survey on June 30th
The registration deadline for conducting a citizen survey about the cross-country skiing center ends next week. The required number of signatures was reached on Friday. It is therefore certain that there will be a third election Sunday in Bad Leonfelden this year.
At the local council meeting on Monday, the election date will most likely be set for Sunday, June 30th. A merger with the elections to the European Parliament is not possible after clarification with the authorities. “The last few weeks have shown how negative moods can be created with a single decision on an official procedure and an emotional climate of dispute comes to the fore,” said the mayor in a broadcast: “This can’t be good for Bad Leonfelden. I wish “More together again instead of against each other. Especially for the coming period, I also hope that everyone affected and involved returns to an appreciative approach,” he warns. Regarding the project itself, he also draws political consequences: “My personal contribution to constructive cooperation is that, as mayor, I will no longer support the project. I will not take part in a week-long election campaign ‘Sport against climate protection’,” says Wolfesberger .
