Russia’s security proposals to be discussed with allies in the White House

The White House is discussing with partners the Russian Federation’s proposals on security guarantees. On December 17, the representative of the US administration Jennifer Psaki told reporters about this during a briefing.

Washington will not consider Moscow’s proposals without the opinion of its partners, she said.

“We will not compromise on the key principles on which European security is based, including the fact that all countries have the right to independently determine their future and foreign policy without outside interference,” she explained the position of the White House.

Earlier that day, the press secretary of the Russian president Dmitry Peskov noted that Russia is ready to begin negotiations with the United States on security guarantees on December 18. The Russian Foreign Ministry, in turn, has published draft agreements between Russia and the United States and NATO on security guarantees.

The documents were transferred to Washington and its allies. As follows from the projects, in particular, the alliance should abandon the conduct of any military activity on the territory of Ukraine and other states of Eastern Europe, Transcaucasia and Central Asia.

Also on Friday, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov announced that Russia had offered the United States to hold security talks in Geneva. He specified that Moscow has already formed a team for these negotiations. The diplomat called on his American colleagues to determine, in turn, their composition.

According to Ryabkov, the involvement of Ukraine in NATO and the prospect of deploying NATO strike missile systems near the borders of the Russian Federation is an unacceptable threat to security.

On December 8, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that after admission to NATO, weapons threatening Russia could be deployed in Ukraine.
