Argentina opens its market to Uruguayan dairy imports

The Uruguayan exports of products dairy add new opportunities after the officialization by the government of Argentina to release the imports of some foods and other products in the basic basket.

The decision of the administration of Javier Milei can give a new boost to external sales of Conaprole, after 2023 where the neighboring country was ranked fifth among the main destinations for placements of local companies, according to the balance of Uruguay XXI.

He Central Bank of the Argentine Republic (BCRA) made official in the last few hours the exemption from tax Added Value (VAT) on the import of some foods, but also personal hygiene products.

Through resolution “A” 7980, the BCRA included imports made official as of this Friday that correspond to “goods of the basic basket of consumption whose tariff positions according to the Common Nomenclature of the Mercosur (NCM) are detailed in point 12.4 of the ‘Exterior and changes’ regulations.”

Conaprole may be one of those who benefit from the measure

After 2023 where it was among the most exporting companies in the Uruguay, Conaprole seeks to capitalize on this measure to improve its dairy sales, after a year in which it consolidated in Latin America and reached a record in its turnover, exceeding 1,000 million dollars in sales.

In that period, the most frequent destinations for their placements were Brazil, Algeria, China, Russia, and Mexicoso this measure in the neighboring country raises the expectation of being able to increase the commercial relationship.

What are the products included in the measure?

The products dairy and derivatives are the most prominent on the list authorized by the government for Uruguayan exporters, although other foods also appear such as beef, swine, poultry, and derivatives; and fish and derivatives.

Foods also include eggs, vegetables, legumes, fruits vegetables, nuts and other primary foods; spices; cereals and its derivatives; oilseeds and its derivatives; fats and oils; food preparations (pastes, sauces, baked goods, jams, canned foods); food inputs (extracts, concentrates, cocoa), beers and non-alcoholic drinks.

In the same line there are products of personal hygiene such as cotton and swabs, body deodorants, shaving machines and foam, insecticides for personal use, toilet soap, disposable diapers, toilet paper, toothpaste, condoms, baby products, feminine protection, shampoo and conditioner.

Finally, in the area of cleaning detergents, soap/laundry detergent and fabric softeners appear; and bleach, cleaners and about 800 medicines.
