Valetta is heading west: last year, the Linz-based family business opened a flagship store in Innsbruck. It is the sun protection specialist’s third location in Austria: the headquarters and production are in Linz, and Valetta is also represented in Vienna.
“Thanks to production in Linz and our other locations, we guarantee short transport routes and can react flexibly to individual customer requests,” says Andreas Klotzner, who runs the business together with his brother Christian. Regionality goes far beyond economic aspects.

At the beginning of the corona pandemic, Valetta benefited from people retreating into their own four walls and beautifying their homes. This effect is now over. Sales recently stabilized at around 37 million euros. Before Corona it was 29 million euros.
Last year, Valetta produced around 220,000 sun protection units and 200 employees work in the company. 250 specialist partners sell roller shutters, blinds, awnings and insect screens. There is also the project business, which accounts for around 30 percent of sales.
Andreas Klotzner sees growth potential when it comes to sustainability. This year the focus is on external sun protection solutions with solar power. This allows the interior temperature of residential buildings to be regulated. This increases living comfort and reduces energy consumption. In contrast to conventional sun protection solutions with batteries, solar drives guarantee a continuous supply of energy. The solar power collected is stored and can be enough to operate the roller shutter for up to 45 days without additional light.
Employees invented company names
Valetta was founded in 1960 by Alois and Marianne Klotzner. Initially the company specialized in blinds and folding doors. Awnings and roller shutters were added in the 1970s.
The company name came about in 1986 as a result of a competition among employees. A football-loving sales representative brought up the name “La Valetta” after a European Cup game. The brand was patented. In 1996 Andreas and Christian Klotzner took over the management. With the sons Christian Jr. and Gregor is now the third generation to work in the company.
