After Ivana and Kamil Kasik’s son had a serious accident five years ago and is now impaired, the parents are particularly challenged. With five children, life for the family from Untereben in Helfenberg would naturally be turbulent. As “Gift” The parents therefore refer to their Caritas family helper Christine Kitzmüller from St. Stefan-Afiesl, who helps them every week with childcare and household chores.
It’s a miracle that Kamil Jr. developed so well. After the boy suffered a severe traumatic brain injury at the age of one, doctors predicted he had no chance of survival. But Kamil, a real little fighter, survived and made progress. Mother Ivana, a qualified nurse herself, remembers: “They then said to me: ‘If he can sit in a wheelchair one day, we’ll be very lucky.'” Thanks to many therapies and early intervention programs, Kamil can now even walk, and the one-sided paralysis is only noticeable at second glance. But the six-year-old’s developmental delay and alertness continue to challenge the family. Both parents work: Ivana Kasik in the Haslach retirement home, her husband, also with the support of his wife, runs the Reiterwirt in Untereben, which they bought a few years ago. “Two years ago I didn’t know what to do first. It was after the move, I was breastfeeding, two children were at home in the morning, there was so much work everywhere”, the mother remembers. Then she finally turned to Caritas Mobile Family Services. Since then, Christine Kitzmüller has been additional “right hand” An integral part of the Kasiks’ lives.

“It does so much and is like a full treasure chest that opens with every use. We have previously had various individual care for Kamil, but looking after all five children, cooking and household chores – only Caritas Family Help can do that”says Ivana Kasik. The parents are pleased that the family helper perceives each of the five children, ages 3, 4, 6, 7 and 13, as independent personalities and responds to them.
Dedicated with heart and soul
“Christine puts her heart and soul into the work, and I can’t put into words how grateful I am that, for example, I can get a little sleep after a twelve-hour night shift thanks to Christine. You don’t actually have to say anything, she sees what needs to be done and that’s incredibly calming.” The family helper also takes on the cooking – often together with the children, because there is no afternoon care in the kindergarten. The Caritas employee also ensures that the older people do their home exercises. This variety as a family helper is exactly what Christine Kitzmüller loves about her job.
Found your dream job
The 53-year-old is a late-career: “I wanted to work as a family helper after school, but training was not possible for my family at the time for financial reasons.” So she worked in the hospitality industry before training to become a kindergarten assistant. At the age of 45, the mother of three adult sons wanted to reorient herself professionally and applied to Caritas. “I got the job. Thanks to my pre-qualifications, I was able to start working straight away and complete my training at the same time. Now I have found my dream job.”
