Talks between Mossad chief David Barnea, Qatar’s prime minister and Egyptian officials will focus on differences that still exist between Israel and Hamas, such as prisoner release and humanitarian aid.

Israel had said on Friday that it would send a delegation to Doha, but did not say when it would do so or who would participate. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was expected to convene the security cabinet before the talks.

Israeli officials were not immediately available for comment on Saturday, the Jewish Sabbath.

Barnea participated in previous attempts to reach an agreement. A brief truce was reached in November and came into force after his participation in the Doha talks.

His last meeting with Qatar’s prime minister in January led to a temporary ceasefire proposal that Hamas ultimately rejected.

Hamas presented a new ceasefire proposal to mediators and the United States this week, which includes the release of Israeli hostages in exchange for the release of Palestinian prisoners.

Repeated attempts to agree a ceasefire and exchange hostages for prisoners have failed this year, despite growing international pressure over the human cost of Israel’s ground and air attack on Gaza.
