At the World Cup final in Nassfeld in Carinthia, Leonhard Wegmayr was only beaten by the Czech Pacel Cihacek in the giant slalom. In the Super-G he was once again the best Austrian, fourth behind the day’s winner Björn Walter from Switzerland and two Czechs. In the slalom, which the Czech Cihacek won again, Wegmayr was eliminated in the first round just before the finish with a top time. “Due to the spring-like temperatures, it was unfortunately also a race with start numbers, which put Wegmayr, who had been leading in the overall standings, at a slight disadvantage,” said Steyr skibob legend Karl Mayrhofer in his analysis after the races.
In the overall World Cup standings, the Steyrer finished second, 27 points behind three-time season winner Cihacek. For the overall victory, Wegmayr, who was still in the lead before the season finale, would have “only” had to finish ahead of Cihacek in the final slalom.
In the women’s category, Pia Zoister came in fourth place as the second-best Austrian in the giant slalom, immediately behind Iris Lienhard from Lower Austria, and in sixth place in the Super-G, immediately behind the Styrian Juliane Knauss. Viktoria Zoister came ninth and tenth in these races. Viktoria won the Zoister family duel in the slalom. She came fifth, Pia sixth. In the final results, Pia Zoister came third behind two Czechs. Viktoria Zoister landed in eleventh place.
