The former mayor of cannelloni and pre-candidate for the presidency Broad Front, Yamandú Orsiquestioned the way in which the complaint of sexual and workplace harassment against the deputy was treated. Gustavo Olmos, also from the left coalition, after the National Plenary did not reach a “reliable conclusion” about the existence of the reported facts. “Maybe we are not handling these issues with the necessary prudence,” he considered.
TO Orsi, issues related to complaints of sexual crimes no longer find him as a mere spectator, even when they occur within the Broad Front. Since Wednesday, the same candidate has been reported for assault by a trans woman, based on an episode that occurred in 2014. For this reason, and despite the fact that he denied all the accusations and warned about the existence of a “dirty campaign ” against them, the way in which these issues are treated became more relevant.
In that sense, the former mayor of Canelones referred to the decision of the National Plenary to approve the resolution that concludes that the elements of evidence in the possession of the Political Conduct Court (TCP) of the coalition do not allow us to ensure, without a doubt, that Olmos has incurred sexual or workplace harassment against his substitute, Martina Casas.
“It is possible that we do not handle these issues with the necessary prudence. I would like us to have worked on them differently, they are very serious things,” he considered. Orsi in dialogue with Channel 10, after a press conference in Shangrilá in which he also supported the Plenary’s decision.
“One has to be very cautious. Because of the love that they deserve in me, the best thing I can do is be cautious, remain silent and let things process,” he added, alluding to the situations that involved Olmos, You’re getting married now Rodrigo Roncio, Mayor of The Cerrillos —who resigned after being found responsible for cases of sexual and workplace harassment against Broad Front militants by the TCP.
Anyway, Orsi He clarified that his criticisms were not directed “at an organization or anything”, but at the members of the party, and stressed that “if the organizations fail, they must be respected and if it is necessary to review, it is reviewed.”
For his part, the president of Frente Amplio, Fernando Pereira, assured that “no case has been left under the rug, no one can tell us that a complaint that was made in the Broad Front, “neither the president nor any organization kept it, in all cases there was a decision.”
Cosse bows to the decision
For her part, the mayor of Montevideo on leave and also a presidential candidate for the Frente Amplio, Carolina Cosse, He also referred to the decision of the National Plenary and clarified that he abides by it.
In statements to Subrayado, the leader pointed out that the left coalition “decided to wait for the ruling of Justice” regarding the case surrounding Olmos and Casás, and highlighted that “the complex problems of the Wide Front they decide collectively.” In that sense, he also valued the transparency of the procedures.
Days ago, regarding the complaint filed against Orsi, Cosse had indicated that he supported the party’s statement on the matter, but that he would also respect Justice in relation to that issue.
