According to police, the 35-year-old was thrown through the air and was seriously injured. The 37-year-old victim was trapped in his vehicle and had to be rescued from the wreckage by the fire department using rescue scissors.
Both people involved were taken to hospitals. The accident occurred on Sunday around 4:30 a.m. for reasons that are still unclear on the B78 in Obdach (Murtal district). The car of a Romanian (37) overturned after the crash and came to a stop around 150 meters away. The driver was seriously injured and lost consciousness, the state police headquarters announced on Monday.
Wanted to help the other party in the accident heal
The 35-year-old from the Murtal district wanted to rush to the aid of the other party in the accident. A 62-year-old from Wolfsberg in Carinthia approached in his car. He must have suddenly avoided the Murtaler’s unlit vehicle and then saw the man too late in the darkness and caught him. The 62-year-old’s car then slid over an embankment into a meadow.
The Carinthian provided first aid and alerted the rescue services. The fire brigade freed the Romanian from the car using rescue scissors. He was taken to UKH Graz by helicopter. The Red Cross took the 35-year-old to the LKH Judenburg. The Carinthian remained uninjured.
