The measures of force in Conaprole They have been going on for more than a week and the union has not yet received a response from the company, which means that they have ruled out a strike and jeopardize the supply of dairy products in the country.
Last week the Association of Workers and Employees of Conaprole announced forceful measures, including carrying out tasks according to regulations and two hours of strike per day. The cooperative’s union demands the recategorization of four sectors—trade, monthly, laboratory and factory—while its last update is from October 2010.
However, they have not yet received a response from the cooperative, so the supply of dairy products facing the decisions that the union assembly could make. “To the extent that, these days, there is no news in this regard, the assembly will consider the steps to take in the future,” he assured. Luis Goicheaspokesperson for the union, to Teledía.
The union assures that for more than two years it has been demanding “the installation of bipartite forums to discuss technological transformations and how they have impacted the categories”, which date back 13 years. “In 2010 the first categorization was done by trade, in 2011 laboratory, monthly and factory, and we have been with the same categories for 13 or 14 years,” Goichea remarked.
In that sense, he explained that Conaprole grew from 1.17 billion to 1.5 billion liters of milk production per year. This represented an increase of 27.5%, which caused an increase in turnover that went from 680 to 1.04 billion dollars in turnover last year, a figure that is considered a record.
With this, the union spokesperson questioned the fact that the cooperative continues with the same categories for its workers, with the same salaries and with the same number of workers.
Producers ask for firm measures
The National Milk Producers Association (ANPL) asked the board of Conaprole to take “firm measures”, considering that “the strikes are recurring.”
“If they have to take harsh measures, “We are all going to be behind the board,” stated the spokesperson for the ANPL, that defined the workers’ struggle measures as “pressures”, after the assembly of producers that took place this Tuesday, where they considered that this occurs at a time when the sector “cannot increase its costs.”
The producers assured that Conaprole “it is a source of pride” because it keeps the employees “in good conditions and good salary”, but still “there is permanent conflicts”, assured the president of the National Association of Milk Producers, Ruben Cabrera.
Conaprole’s position
On the other hand, the president of the cooperative, Gabriel Fernandezassured, in dialogue with Radio Carve, that this measure would most likely affect the delivery of all the products of Conaprole in the market.
On the other hand, the president assured that the salaries of the employees of Conaprole It is above the average for the sector, even the average for the entire workplace and that the majority is updated by CPI and there are even salary recomposition clauses. “A general recategorization of 800 employees just because the last time it was done ten years passed, when in the middle of those ten years the salary part has been permanently worked on, is totally unfounded,” he assured.
Furthermore, Fernández recalled that the other side of the sector, the producers, are not going through a good economic time, so the strikes affect that part of the chain. Meanwhile, the president also brought up the fact that international milk prices are not at an optimal time either.
“Dairy workers are having a hard time and the price of milk arises from the profitability of the cooperative. Conaprole It closes at zero and is non-profit, it is all at the producer’s price. Furthermore, in the rest of the dairy industries there are delays in salaries and layoffs,” he assured.
