Last year, the Court of Auditors (RH) criticized the clearing of almost 19 hectares of forest for the future “Ehrenfeld II Viecht” industrial development area as “improper”. It happened “without sufficient examination of the requirements,” according to the RH report. It was criticized that the state had not required an environmental impact assessment and that the Gmunden district administration had waved the clearing through without all the prescribed replacement afforestation areas having been determined.
Political responsibilities not clear
The NEOS therefore also wanted to clarify the political responsibilities, which is why club chairman Felix Eypeltauer, as chairman of the control committee, submitted the application for a commission of inquiry. He described the majority rejection as “scandalous”. The blockade is an “example of the fact that democratic control rights are not sufficient to deal with dubious procedures and decisions.” The MFG criticized that “establishing an investigative commission in Upper Austria is not a minority right”.
SPÖ spatial planning spokeswoman Heidi Strauss spoke of the government parties’ “ignorance of the project’s horrendous land destruction”, which she found “shocking”. The Greens criticized the ÖVP’s “lack of insight” and the negation of the “systemic failure,” said club chairman Severin Mayr after the meeting.

ÖVP club chairman Christian Dörfel justifies his party’s rejection of the investigative commission by saying that the “state parliament is not a show stage”. The state parliament has been working on the company’s growing area for two years. “A political tribunal will not get us anywhere,” he concluded.
