The new way of Central Railway It is carrying out tests that, according to the head of planning of the construction consortium, have been positive, which could indicate that the railway will be operational in April.
Just as the engineer had anticipated Luis Ceiter, advisor to the Ministry of Transportation and Public Works (MTOP)in January, the Central Railway is expected to be operational in April and fully operational by the end of the first half of the year.
“We are convinced that this is going to be a before and after for the transportation of Uruguay. The railway mode is going to burst into our country with another dynamic, with another reality, with other volumes of cargo and it will be a different way of operating, in which there will no longer be a place for that old train,” the member of the railway management committee, also highlighting the modernization of the railway mode and the lower pollution of this transport.

The head of planning for the construction consortium, Anaí Morallet, assured Subrayado that the tests carried out on the railway are giving positive responses. They began with the objective of evaluating the tracks, the signaling system and in conjunction with the train operators.

A project that excites
He Central Railway will receive an approximate total of 40 million dollars from the company RAS Group that intends to carry out a railway project with the objective of transporting wood, containers and liquid bulk.
Meanwhile in Uruguay, RAS Group has managed to develop a successful logistics ecosystem, the company has a presence in 11 countries throughout the world with more than 800 employees.
Regarding the project, they announced that it will involve the purchase of 7 locomotives, of which three would initially arrive in the country. On the other hand, they assured that they are acquiring equipment capable of supporting more than 18 tons per axle.
So far, 3 contracts have been signed for the transportation of wood, containers and liquid bulk. With a total investment of almost 40 million dollars – 25 million dollars in the first phase and 15 in the second – the company stressed that the investments were not only in machinery.
