The supply of general practitioners in the district capital will remain tense in the coming months. Those who do not currently have a permanent family doctor at their side will find it difficult to find advice in one of the existing ordinations. “It crunches in every nook and cranny,” says Franz Baumann, parliamentary group leader of the Green Perg, describing the situation.
At the initiative of the innovation committee, the Perger municipal council commissioned the creation of a concept for a primary care unit this week. This should show what team-oriented medical care for the 9,000 residents of Perg can look like. The goal is a medical center that also deserves this name, says Vice Mayor Fabio König (VP): “To say that we are building a house and then we rent office space will not be enough. This business model is no longer up-to-date.”
Rather, you have to enable real teamwork that encompasses several medical subjects: general practitioners, internists, physiotherapists, speech therapists and a lot more. Doctors who not only work next door, but actually in a team. With Erwin Rebhandl, who has done recognized pioneering work with the Haslach primary care center, Perg has brought an experienced practitioner on board. König: “As a community, we cannot tackle the problem of health care alone. That is why it makes sense to have experienced support as early as the concept phase.” For FPÖ Vice Mayor Andreas Köstinger, who is himself a doctor, a good approach: “With Dr. Rebhandl at our side, we are well positioned.”
In this way, the municipal policy aims to be attractive as a location for medical professionals – for example for women doctors who want to ensure a work-life balance. And for the patients. If the Greens have their way, such a medical center could be open daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. (live)
