“He was getting weaker and weaker”: Police officers rescued dog Neo from the Jauckerbach

Like every day, Bianca P. went for a walk with her dog Neo near the Jauckerbach. But the following hour was anything but ordinary for the dog owner: the Labrador slipped under the fence surrounding the stream and fell into the water. “He saw an animal and ran after it. The collar broke and I couldn’t hold him.” For twenty nerve-wracking minutes, Bianca P. tried to lure Neo to the ladders. But the Labrador, who has age-related hip problems, was unable to climb out of the water – the current was too strong. “He kept slipping and getting weaker and weaker.”

Finally, the desperate dog owner called the police. “I knew I couldn’t jump after him because people had already died. I still felt uncomfortable calling the police about it.” Two officers were quickly on site and reassured P. “They said we’ll get him out.” The police had already notified the power plant and the fire department – they were waiting with divers and a boat in case the police did not manage to pull the dog out of the water. Bianca P. and one of the officers climbed over the fence and lured Neo to a ladder. “Then we were finally able to pull him out,” said P. with relief.

“I’m really glad that the rescue chain worked so well. I knew that if we hadn’t made it, the fire department would have fished Neo out.” The eleven-year-old Labrador had to stay in the water for about an hour before he was finally rescued. “His nails were bleeding because he kept slipping on the stone wall, and he was shaking for another hour.” He is now doing well again, “he was really fit again in the afternoon.”
