Three defendants between the ages of 22 and 37 from Syria and Afghanistan had to answer on Tuesday in the Ried regional court for, among other things, the crime of smuggling. The tugboat ride with 18 people on September 20, 2023 ended after a collision with a police car and subsequent warning shots in the municipality of Reichersberg. The defendants made a confession. The driver of the van stated that he was forced to drive the tractor under threat of violence. The defendants – two of whom were traveling in support vehicles – were sentenced to partial prison sentences of three years and two years and ten months respectively. The judge’s rulings are not yet legally binding.
