Passers-by discovered the frightened young animals and brought them to Four Paws, the animal protection organization reported in a broadcast on Thursday.

“There was no sheltered place near the construction pit where the baby rabbits could have been placed. It was therefore right that they were brought to us. Here we can nurture them and finally release them back into nature,” said EGS leader Hans Frey. The babies are initially fed four to five times a day until they drink from the bottle. As soon as they no longer need milk, they can be released into the wild.
Rescue of small rabbits is only necessary in exceptional cases
But not all baby rabbits whose mother is not visible need to be rescued. The organization Four Paws informs us that it is normal for a young animal to sit alone in the kennel and wait for its mother all day long. The mother is usually not far away looking for food, but never shows herself when potential enemies – including people – come near her baby. “This is an important protective mechanism so that the exact location of their young is not revealed,” says Frey.

Saving a baby bunny is only justified if it is visibly injured or the mother is proven to have died, for example in a car accident. Even if a cat or dog brings a young animal and the location can no longer be determined, it must be rescued.
If in doubt, you should first ask a wildlife station for advice.
