The United States has assured Kiev that it will not make decisions about Ukraine without its participation. Jalina Porter, the deputy head of the press service of the State Department, spoke about this on Friday, December 17.
In this way, Porter voiced the statement made by the Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Karen Donfried during her visit to Kiev.
“Donfried reaffirmed the US commitment to support the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, as well as the president’s position that no decisions or discussions about Ukraine will be made without her,” Porter said at a special briefing, the transcript is available on the US Department of State website.
On the morning of December 15, Karen Donfried arrived at the Russian Foreign Ministry for talks with Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov. The parties discussed the issue of security guarantees for Russia.
On December 13, Ryabkov said that if NATO countries do not respond to Moscow’s demand for security guarantees, this will lead to a new round of confrontation. According to him, Russia fears the deployment in Europe of weapons prohibited by the Treaty on the Elimination of Intermediate-Range and Shorter-Range Missiles.
