The EU responded to the RF proposal on security guarantees

The European Union (EU) responded to the RF proposal on security guarantees. This was announced on Friday, December 17, to RIA Novosti by the official representative of the European Union’s foreign policy service, Peter Stano.

According to Stano, Russia should respect the right of other countries to choose their foreign policy.

In response to Russia’s initiatives, the EU suggested discussing security in existing formats, including the NATO-Russia Council and the OSCE.

Earlier, on December 17, Russia formed a team to negotiate with the United States on security guarantees. According to Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov, the Russian side has an understanding that this will be an interdepartmental format.

The diplomat also said that he was ready to meet with US representatives and discuss guarantees, where it is convenient, but it is problematic to hold negotiations in Washington due to visa problems.

Earlier on Friday, the Russian Foreign Ministry published draft agreements between Russia and the United States and NATO on security guarantees. As follows from the documents, in particular, the alliance should refuse to conduct any military activity on the territory of Ukraine and other states of Eastern Europe, Transcaucasia and Central Asia.

Also, Russia and NATO commit themselves not to create conditions that could be regarded as a threat by the other side.

On December 13, Ryabkov announced that there was no Russian invasion of Ukraine and could not be. He stressed that what Russia is doing on its territory does not concern the West.
