Eva Pinkelnig said goodbye to the summer break with her 15th World Cup victory, the sixth this season. The 35-year-old from Vorarlberg set a hill record with 103.5 meters in the final on the normal hill in Planica in the second round. Nika Prevc (Slo), who came third behind Alexandria Loutitt (Can), received the large crystal ball. Pinkelnig took second place in the overall ranking, the Nations Cup went to Austria.
“Incredible, it was such a cool ending. I’m extremely happy with how it went for me. I didn’t expect that after my knee injury (at the start of the season at the end of December, note),” said Pinkelnig.
Jacqueline Seifriedsberger impressed in sixth place. “A lot of good things happened this season, really great. But towards the end I ran out of gas,” reported the 33-year-old from Schildorner, who finished the World Cup in a strong fifth place.
Julia Mühlbacher from Schalchen ended up in 14th place.
On Friday (3:30 p.m., ORF 1) it will be the men’s turn with the first of two individual ski flying competitions. In the qualification, Daniel Huber was third, overall World Cup winner Stefan Kraft, who is also on his way to the small crystal globe in ski flying, came fifth.
