In the most populous municipality in the Eferding district with 6,200 inhabitants, health care is being significantly expanded. Family doctor Lorenz Linzner and his wife Doris have decided to invest in their own practice.
The topping-out ceremony took place on Wednesday at the “Humanum” medical center, a project of the Raiffeisenbank Region Eferding. Operations are expected to begin in October.
General practitioner Lorenz Linzner, who took over Herbert Hörtenhuber’s practice, is building his new practice near the warehouse. “Construction is expected to start at the beginning of July; we are planning a one-story building with rooms for physiotherapy and counseling,” says Doris Linzner, who herself works in psychosocial counseling. A psychotherapist and probably a clinical psychologist will also join the practice team. “We want to offer as much as possible for our patients,” says Linzner. Completion of the wooden frame construction is planned for the second quarter of 2025.

The construction of the “Humanum” health center is already making rapid progress, where a general practitioner with a health insurance contract will also move in. “The application deadline expired at the end of February and there is one applicant,” says Christian Schönhuber, board director of Raiffeisenbank Region Eferding, which is building the medical center. He does not want to give the name of the applicant until the award process has been formally completed. Doctors from the fields of urology, surgery and internal medicine as well as therapists from various disciplines such as physiotherapy and psychology will also move in. Around 3.5 million euros will be invested. “From today’s perspective, the statutory health insurance doctor will start in October, and the other doctors and therapists will also start either in October or January 2025,” says Schönhuber. The second position for a general practitioner for Alkoven was advertised for more than a year.
The third family doctor position, which has already been advertised several times, has not yet been filled. “This third doctor’s office would be planned for the Straßham district. There, OÖ Wohnbau is building 200 residential units and a multifunctional building in which doctors’ practices and therapy rooms are planned,” says Mayor Monika Weberberger-Rainer (SP). The start of the first construction phase of this large residential building project, including a multifunctional building with a local supplier or café, offices and practices, is scheduled to begin this year. “We are continuing to grow and will endeavor to fill the third family doctor position,” says Weberberger-Rainer.
