The Bernglau family celebrated Christmas together: mom Silvia laughing under the Christmas tree, together with daughter Lina, who was just as happy. It’s a photo that dad Patrick looks at often. Because the young family from Frankenmarkt will no longer spend Easter together.
On February 12th of this year, Silvia Bernglau’s heart stopped beating. All of a sudden and completely unexpected. At the age of 37, the young mother suffered a posterior wall infarction. A type of heart attack whose symptoms are usually very mild and often go unnoticed. Patrick Bernglau and daughter Lina, four years old, were left alone.
Only three years ago the family bought a house and lovingly renovated it. The work has not yet been completed and the loan has not yet been paid off. In his work as a caterpillar driver for a company in Vöcklamarkt, Bernglau now has to slow down in order to be able to better look after his young daughter. The family’s fate also left its mark on the Frankenmarkt Volunteer Fire Department. At the general meeting of the fire brigade, the comrades collected donations in order to be able to make at least a small contribution.
Last week, commander Sebastian Kirtsch and his deputy Daniel Jedidinger were able to hand over a collected sum of 600 euros to father Patrick. But it shouldn’t just be a one-off financial donation.
“The father is a friend of some comrades, the family is well known to many of us. Of course, 600 euros isn’t the world, but it comes directly from the firefighters. We also have a fundraising campaign once a year, so we’ll do it again for them Collect family,” says Kirtsch. And another surprise is planned: “We want to create our own children’s holiday program for Lina. She can then come to us with her friends for an afternoon and we will show her the world of the fire service. Maybe such a carefree afternoon will help, at least in the short term,” says The Commander.
