As reported, an underage student at the Auhof Federal School Center in Linz is said to have illegally downloaded 225 student data for an online “ranking” of young women and girls.
The investigations are still ongoing, said Ulrike Breiteneder from the Linz public prosecutor’s office in response to an OÖN request. This much is now certain: The alleged perpetrator is said to have gained access to the school server on which the photos are located using the password of an exchange student who was no longer at the school at the time. An external website was then set up with the extracted photos and data. Links were then sent out to promote participation in the “ranking”.
The Linz police are also investigating the suspect and unknown parties because of “illegal access to a computer system”. The offense carries a penalty of up to one year for young people, says the public prosecutor. As the law requires, the suspect may only be questioned in the presence of his defense attorney. The OÖN recently asked the student council for a statement, but they currently do not want to comment on ongoing proceedings, according to an email to the editorial team.
