CNN reported on the buildup of Russian troops near the border with Ukraine

Russia continues to pull troops to the border with Ukraine. This was reported on December 17 by CNN, citing sources in US intelligence.

According to media reports, there may be 50 battalion tactical groups on the border with Ukraine, and six more groups are supposedly on their way.

“These groups, which can typically include up to 900 each, are highly diversified and fairly self-sufficient combat units with a combination of troops, artillery, anti-tank weapons, reconnaissance and engineering units,” CNN reports.

Earlier, on December 15, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that Russia would face serious economic sanctions from the United Kingdom and the G7 in general in the event of an “invasion of Ukraine”.

On the same day, the head of the European Commission (EC) Ursula von der Leyen said that the European Union (EU) is ready, in cooperation with partners, including the United States, to expand sanctions against the Russian Federation in the event of an escalation of the situation in Ukraine. At the same time, the head of the European Commission stressed that the EU wants good relations with Russia, but “everything depends on its actions.”

On the same day, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, noted that the statement of the G7 countries on the inadmissibility of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is unconstructive and contains false assessments.

On December 6, the press secretary of the Russian president Dmitry Peskov said that the Kremlin sees clearly aggressive rhetoric of the West about Ukraine and media stuffing about the allegedly planned Russian invasion of this country. He added that tensions can be removed only by receiving a guarantee that Kiev has abandoned a possible solution to the problem of Donbass by force.

The Western media have repeatedly appeared articles about the allegedly possible Russian invasion. So, on November 19, The New York Times reported that the US administration had warned the allies about the alleged plans of the Russian Federation to attack the territory of Ukraine and called for new anti-Russian measures to be prepared.
