That has changed. Su has been president and boss of the manufacturer Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), one of Nvidia’s largest competitors, since 2014.
When Su became boss, AMD was in crisis, had parted ways with many employees, and demand was stagnating. The group is now one of the fastest growing in the semiconductor industry; AMD recently had sales of $23 billion with 25,000 employees.

“Not sexy, but sexier”
Su, born in Taiwan and raised in the USA, is considered the most powerful woman in artificial intelligence in the industry. AMD chips power Tesla vehicles and are in game consoles such as Xbox and Playstation.
“I worked on semiconductors when it wasn’t sexy,” says the 54-year-old. Postscript: “I wouldn’t necessarily say it’s sexy now, but at least sexier.” Su is somewhat related to Nvidia boss Jensen Huang. She believes fears that AI will become uncontrollable are unfounded. However, every company in the industry has a responsibility, including AMD.
