Wels honors Anton Bruckner with two concerts

Anton Bruckner

Wels also joins the celebrations surrounding the composer Anton Bruckner (1824–1896), who was born 200 years ago. Honor is paid to Upper Austria’s musical genius with two concerts.

On Tuesday, April 2nd, the Oö will be a guest at 7:30 p.m. Youth Symphony Orchestra of the State Music School in the Greif City Theater. Katharina Wincor, a young aspiring conductor, is at the podium. Like Bruckner, she also has her musical roots in our state.

Prelude with Haydn

The first part of the concert will feature Joseph Haydn’s Symphony No. 101 “The Clock”. The work is one of the famous London symphonies and is considered one of Haydn’s most frequently performed pieces. The second part of the concert is entirely dedicated to the great master from Ansfelden. Bruckner’s 7th Symphony, which he wrote for the fairytale King Ludwig II of Bavaria, represented a turning point in the composer’s life. With this masterpiece, Bruckner achieved his musical breakthrough and received the recognition he longed for from musicians and the audience.

On Tuesday, April 30th, the master’s music will be presented in a rather unique way at 7 p.m. in the Sacred Heart Church. The Military Music of Upper Austria under the direction of Kapellmeister Lieutenant Colonel Gernot Haidegger will bring the works of “Bruckner and Friends” to life. The uniformed musicians are accompanied by the Welser Bach Choir under the direction of Thomas Huber as well as Elke Eckerstorfer on the organ and Veronika Riedl as solo singer.

This project in cooperation with the city of Wels and the OÖ KulturEXPO Anton Bruckner 2024 promises to be more than just a concert for the ears. As the title suggests, the musicians performing want to present the audience with a spiritual and aesthetic experience for all senses.

“Celebrating musical heritage”

“The Bruckner Memorial Year is an opportunity to honor his work and celebrate his musical legacy. I am pleased to be able to begin the musical dance with two outstanding performances,” says cultural officer, Vice Mayor Christa Raggl-Mühlberger (FP).
