A great team performance paved the way for the Bundesliga women of the Mühlviertel Volleys to a 3-1 home win against the first division team of the UNIONvolleys Bisamberg-Hollabrunn on Saturday. The game didn’t start at all the way the home team wanted. In the first set, the Pergers had far too much respect for their opponents and were clearly behind at 15:25. The second set also started badly with a 4-0 score for the guests and the score continued in this manner until the score was 19:15 for Bisamberg-Hollabrunn.
But then the team from the Mühlviertel had a jolt. Coach Lydia Trauner’s team fought its way forward point by point. At 24:22, the women from Bisamberg had set point, but the Pergers initially made it 24:24 and then managed to equalize the set at 27:25. From this point on, the Perger girls showed their best volleyball this season. Cheered on by the enthusiastic home crowd, sets three and four won 25:22 and 26:24. The top scorers of the Mühlviertel Volleys were Lara Spiegl (15) and Jana Pilz (12).
“After the first set, everyone in the hall probably thought that this game would be over quickly. But what my girls showed on the court from the middle of the second set was a confirmation of the mental strength of this team. We are incredible in our heads strong and don’t allow ourselves to be unsettled even in difficult situations,” said the overjoyed coach Lydia Trauner immediately after the game: “You have to achieve a performance like that against a team from the first Bundesliga first. We’re now halfway through the relegation game and we’re lying in third place. The journey can continue like this.”
