The fire occurred on Sunday afternoon. The emergency call was received by the police at 2:25 p.m.: A balcony in Freistadt was on fire. Police officers were on site before the fire brigade. From below, the two police officers saw flames coming from a balcony on the second floor.

After everyone had been evacuated from the building, one of the two officers took a fire extinguisher from the staircase and used it to put out the flames. This prevented the flames from spreading to the roof structure. The Freistadt fire department deployed a fire engine with a telescopic mast platform – so the last remaining embers could be extinguished.
