Little Jakob was born on a motorway exit

It is difficult to estimate in advance how long a birth will last. Sometimes it happens so quickly that you don’t even need to travel to the maternity hospital. That’s exactly what happened to a team from the Pregarten Red Cross.

Although they arrived at the North family’s apartment in Pregarten within a few minutes and set off again shortly afterwards, they did not make it to the hospital in Linz. Halfway there, at the Dornach motorway exit, little Jakob was born healthy and happy in the ambulance.

“During the journey, we soon realized that this time it could happen very quickly. That’s why we prepared for the birth and met with the emergency doctor team in Unterweitersdorf so that the emergency doctor could get in with us,” say the paramedics Eugen Greindl and Benedict Eibensteiner. The journey continued together towards the hospital. The father was also there. On the A7 near Dornach, the birth could no longer be stopped. The rescue team pulled off the highway and stopped the vehicles. Jakob was born a few seconds later in the ambulance in the presence of his father Maximilian and doctor Michaela Aigner.

“Everyone involved mastered their role as obstetricians brilliantly. I always had the feeling that I was in good hands. We were looked after very lovingly and professionally,” says mother Stefanie North, who also worked as a paramedic at the Red Cross in Pregarten a few years ago was active. “Everyone was so happy that everything went well and we will always look back fondly on the birth of Jakob.”

Happy reunion

A few days after the birth, paramedics Eugen Greindl and Benedikt Eibensteiner with emergency doctor Michaela Aigner and emergency paramedic Thomas Munz from the Freistadt emergency medical service visited parents Stefanie and Maximilian North with their sons Anton and Jakob at home and once again warmly congratulated them.
