Moscow’s proposed security guarantees are a “moment of truth” that will show the real relationship between Russia and NATO at the moment. This statement was made by the Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Alexander Grushko on Saturday, December 18.
“The moment of truth has come. Indeed, we have reached a dangerous line, and our proposals are precisely aimed at moving away from this dangerous line and nevertheless entering into some kind of normal dialogue, at the forefront of which will be the interests of security. And we have very clearly defined the ways to achieve this, ”said Grushko on the air of the YouTube channel“ Soloviev Live ”.
He also noted that Russia has all the technical capabilities to ensure its military security.
“The fact that we have enough technical capabilities to reliably ensure our military security by all means is a fact that our partners recognize. Because this is what NATO is doing, they are now trying to neutralize our advantages, ”the diplomat said.
Grushko also said: Russia expects that NATO will not be able to “blabber” Russian proposals on security guarantees. According to him, if NATO rejects Moscow’s initiative, the Russian Federation will also switch to a counter-threat regime.
Earlier in the day, US National Security Assistant Jake Sullivan said Washington wants to use a combination of containment and diplomacy in its dealings with Moscow. He stressed that negotiations will be held with Russia, even if it does not stop showing aggression in relations with Ukraine.
On Friday, the Russian Foreign Ministry published draft agreements between Russia and the United States and NATO on security guarantees. The documents say, in particular, that Russia and NATO undertake not to create conditions that can be regarded as a threat by the other side.
