Excitement over Tyrol advertising video published in error

The film, which was taken offline again after a short time, showed a burping family in the middle of a mountain landscape. The film was published accidentally, according to the managing director of Tirol Werbe, Karin Seiler. State Tourism Councilor Mario Gerber (ÖVP) called for clarification.

“This does not correspond to our values”

The clip was just a – rejected – suggestion from an agency and “accidentally” appeared on Facebook as part of an isolated advertising test, emphasized Seiler. After the oversight became known, the test was stopped immediately and the video was removed from all Tirol Werbe channels. “This does not correspond to our values,” said Seiler. The top Tyrol advertiser apologized and took responsibility.

This obviously doesn’t go far enough for Gerber. In a broadcast on Tuesday, the State Tourism Council called for “complete clarification” and commissioned Josef Margreiter, managing director of lebensraum Tirol Holding, to do so. Tyrol has “built up an excellent international reputation for quality tourism with a focus on nature, hospitality and authenticity,” says Gerber. This “should not be jeopardized under any circumstances”.

Reorganization required

Tyrol’s FPÖ state party leader Markus Abwerzger was shocked by this “unique scandal”. “Apparently there is the proverbial worm in Tyrol advertising, because there is no other way to explain such processes,” criticized Abwerzger in a broadcast.

  • From the archive: Oat milk gate: Farmers angry about commercial

Tyrol’s FPÖ boss called for a structural and personnel reorganization in the organization and recalled that a promotional video from Tirol Advertising had already made headlines two years ago. At that time, another commercial had angered representatives of the Tyrolean Chamber of Agriculture (LK). The reason for this was that in the video a Krampus wanted oat milk in his latte macchiato instead of cow’s milk – and the Tyrolean waitress kindly agreed to this. LK President Abg. Josef Hechenberger (ÖVP) even described this as an “affront to Tyrolean agriculture”, and Tyrol Advertising backtracked.
