Can the electoral credential be processed during Tourism Week?

On April 15, the deadline to obtain the electoral credential expires, which is mandatory to be able to vote in the next elections.

The presidential elections are approaching in the month of October and people have until April 15 to complete the process to obtain it; this Tourism Week It could be a good opportunity to go to the offices to carry out the management since many Uruguayans chose to take a short break.

According to the page of the Electoral Court, The credential can be processed through mobile offices, for which a calendar appears on the website detailing where each one will be, or you can also begin the process through the offices that are located throughout the country.

The special opening hours that the offices will have during Tourism Week are from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the departments of Colonia, Maldonado, Rocha and Tacuarembó and in the remaining departments the hours will be from 10:00 to 15:30. The days that will remain open are the 25th, 26th and 27th, while Thursday and Friday they will remain closed.

Until when can it be processed?

The process to obtain the credential is free and without a prior appointment, so citizens can go to any office in the country to begin the process for which they have until April 15.

That is why, those who turn 18 years old until May 11, 2025 are in a position to process the credential, which is mandatory and necessary to be able to vote in the elections. In that sense, in the case of not being able to vote due to the lack of the card, the fine will be 1,700 pesos or 3,400 if they are public officials or university professionals.

How is the credential processed?

To begin the process, the person must present a public or private document containing a photograph, which proves their identity and which includes the same patronymic data as their birth certificate.

However, in the event that it is a person born outside Uruguayan territory but is the child of a father or mother born in Uruguay must present a testimony of Birth Certificate visated, legalized and, if applicable, translated by a Public Translator or testimony of the registration of your birth in the book of foreigners of the Civil Status Registry, a testimony of the Birth Certificate of your Uruguayan (or oriental) father or mother and a Certificate of approaching, issued by the Electoral Court during the current registration period.
