Asked about the dirty electoral campaign during the 53rd anniversary of the first act of the Wide Front (FA), Mujica said that “we have retreated in flip flops with respect to the tolerance we practiced.” “There is little thought, philosophy, let alone talk, it is prohibited,” reflected the FA leader, Subrayado reported, adding that “the codes have been lost in society.”
Mujica assured that there is a crack in Uruguay –a term that refers to the polarization of the last 20 years in Argentina-: “There is and we try not to let it grow, as much as possible. Therefore, we walk with the old (Julio María) Sanguinetti and (Luis Alberto) Lacalle doing I don’t know what,” he explained.
Fifteen days ago, the three former presidents of the Republic met at an event organized by the Association of Marketing Managers (ADM) and warned about the democratic risk which represents a dirty campaign within the framework of the 2024 elections.
On that occasion, Mujica expressed his opinion on the impact of social networks on the political debate, admitting that they have incorporated positive and negative aspects. “That is why we are here, not because of what we know, but because we are old, to try to help the new generations so that, despite all the differences, they maintain height and preserve that capital that I call us.”
Yesterday, the Frente Amplio showed a show of unity against the Legislative Palace, with the ceremony 53 years after “his first major public event”, in which the four pre-candidates presented themselves for the elections 2024: Yamandú Orsi, Carolina Cosse, Mario Bergara and Andrés Lima, in an attempt to overcome internal tensions.
