Cat triggered tunnel closure on the A7 in Linz

Jumping again: The four-legged friend is now back with his owner.

For an unusual reason, there was a brief disruption in Linz’s early morning traffic on Tuesday: because a cat got lost in the Niedernhart tunnel, it was closed without further ado. A road user who was traveling on the A7 towards the Westautobahn noticed the four-legged friend in the tunnel around 7:30 a.m. and raised the alarm at the animal rescue center in Ebelsberg.

Scared but unharmed

The animal rescuers notified the Asfinag control center, which showed a heart for animals and immediately closed the tunnel. The two Asfinag traffic managers Bernhard and Michael were in the right place at the right time: they reached the scene within two minutes and caught the frightened cat. The four-legged friend went astray and survived his risky excursion uninjured. Thanks to the chip, the owner was quickly identified.

There was a lot of praise for the animal-loving Asfinag employees on social media. “Reading something like that warms my heart” or “Today’s heroes have beards” could be read in the comment bars under the post with numerous hearts.
