A new record with 507 participants, a donation amount in the five-figure euro range and hundreds of smiling faces: the comeback of the Eferding Easter Run last year surprised even the new organizer. “We knew there was potential, but our expectations were exceeded,” admitted Johann Götzenberger from the organizing association Round Table 46 Eferding-Donautal before the upcoming edition on April 1st.
“Scratch the 500-participant mark”
On Easter Monday (from 1 p.m.) the circuit through the historic city center awaits all age groups again. There are seven competitions to choose from, with distances ranging from 150 meters for four-year-olds to the main run over eight kilometers. The organizer wants to “appeal to the broad masses. Parents who first cheer on their children before tackling the Easter run themselves are, so to speak, our target group.”
180 children and young people have already registered and the relay participants have doubled compared to the previous year. “We are scratching the 500-participation mark and are back on track for a record,” says a satisfied Götzenberger. Once again the race is for a good cause. The proceeds are used to financially support regional projects of the Round Table 46 Eferding-Donautal, especially for needy students and families in need as well as individuals.
Brothers duel in the Enzenberger house
Of course, the Eferding training group around Martin Enzenberger and the triathletes Georg Enzenberger and Rafael Lukatsch can’t miss the run on their doorstep. In the main competition there will be another duel between brothers in the Enzenberger house. Martin came second ahead of Georg at the Easter run last year. “I hope I have it under control again,” says the newly crowned national cross-country champion Martin and laughs.
Launched in 1996 by the Eferding Tourism Association, the running event was revived in 2023 after an eight-year break. “We want the Eferding Easter Run to become a fixture again,” says Götzenberger.
Those who decide at short notice still have the opportunity to register online (www.osterlauf-eferding.at) by 11:59 p.m. on Saturday or at Sparkasse Eferding by 2:45 p.m. on the day of the competition.
