The responsible notary’s office announced this, but did not provide any information about the identity of the buyer. The starting bid for the futuristically designed apartment in the historic center of the French capital was set at 5.3 million euros. Only bidders who deposited 1.06 million euros as security were admitted to the auction. The auction of the apartment took place at the Paris Chamber of Commerce and Industry, but interested parties could also bid online or by telephone.

Lagerfeld lived in the apartment, whose 260 square meters are spread over just three rooms, for around a decade until his death in February 2019. It is housed in a 17th-century building on Quai Voltaire in the historic heart of Paris and offers spectacular views of the Seine and the Louvre. The fashion czar had the apartment completely redesigned in a futuristic look with concrete floors and partitions made of sandblasted glass.
