The suspect was fine at the time and was still at large, a public prosecutor’s office spokeswoman said Friday afternoon. The prosecution has not yet received anything in writing regarding the house search.
Therefore, it is not currently known what was seized, said the spokeswoman. An investigation has been pending at the Linz public prosecutor’s office since November 2023.
Fundraising network affiliated with Hamas
On Wednesday, the Reuters news agency reported that the US and Britain had imposed sanctions on a fundraising network linked to the Palestinian group Hamas, which is classified as a terrorist organization by both states. A statement from the U.S. Treasury Department said the punitive measures targeted two individuals and three entities described as key financial intermediaries in fundraising for Hamas. The US Treasury Department’s homepage shows that one of the two sanctioned people lives in Linz.
Senior Hamas official Sami Abu Zuhri, however, denied any connection between the group and the entities and individuals listed by the United States and Britain.
“No connection to the Hamas movement”
“These institutions have no connection to the Hamas movement and the decision is further evidence of the American partnership in the war against the Palestinian people,” Abu Zuhri told Reuters.
The measures are aimed at the organization Gaza Now, which, according to the Finance Ministry, began collecting donations online after the Hamas attack. It is the fourth coordinated sanctions measure by the US and UK related to Hamas fundraising since October 7.
