The list was created by travel experts and influencers. It wasn’t just the golden sand and blue water that mattered. Criteria for the evaluations also included local community, diversity, inclusivity, lifestyle offerings, natural diversity and cultural significance.

Some classics such as Waikiki Beach in Hawaii or Copacabana in Brazil made it into the ranking. But also exotic places like Lake Lucerne in Switzerland – and Zell am See: The Salzburg municipality is in 94th place. At least.
