An accident with a Bulgarian cruise ship on the Danube in Aschach triggered a large-scale operation by rescue workers late on Friday evening. The Aschach, Landshaag and St. Marienkirchen an der Polsenz fire departments were alerted at around 10:40 p.m. The police and several ambulances were also on duty.

According to initial information, the ship crashed into a concrete wall in the area of ​​the power plant. 17 people were injured, eleven of whom were taken to nearby hospitals.

Unable to maneuver

A total of 160 passengers were on board the cruise ship, which was traveling from Bavaria to Linz. The majority of the passengers were German citizens, the crew came from Bulgaria. As the Eferding district fire brigade commander Thomas Pichler announced, the ship was suddenly unable to maneuver for several minutes for an unknown reason and crashed into the concrete wall of the lock.

Fire department specialists used drones to fly over the ship to find the damaged areas. The damage is likely to have been minimal.
