Kitzbühel: Fuss about controls on second homes

Tourism association chairman Christian Harisch speaks of “incitement”.

The authorities in Tyrol had recently taken a tougher approach, even after various rulings by the State Administrative Court. In the event of violations, nationals and foreigners alike face administrative penalties of up to 40,000 euros. Further use of the property can also be prohibited.

Christian Harisch calls the controls “agitation” and “spying” in the Tiroler Tageszeitung. The chairman of the Kitzbühel tourism association said that the location and Tyrol were at risk of enormous damage. Inspectors would spy on guests, examine houses, and ask for ID cards, photos and receipts. Harisch suggests a levy of 0.5 percent of the purchase price of the property to ensure its value. The ruling Tyrolean ÖVP and opposition parties rejected Harisch’s criticism.
