Together with three mountain companions, the man tackled the level C/D (difficult to very difficult) via ferrata on the Drachenwand in the municipality of Mondsee. At around 1 p.m. – the mountaineers were in the area of the suspension bridge – the 29-year-old could no longer go any further. His companions notified the emergency services via the emergency call.
Because a rescue by the police helicopter “Libelle Salzburg” was hopeless due to the strong gusts of wind, the Mondseeland mountain rescue service rappelled the mountaineer down to the base of the wall.
