Won the race, but got rid of the test driver’s license and car: that’s how you could sum up the night of Easter Sunday for a 20-year-old speeder in Vienna who was caught by the state traffic department. According to police spokesman Markus Dittrich, at around 12:45 a.m. the officers observed the 20-year-old racing with a second driver on the Südosttangente (A23) heading south. He accelerated his car to 249 km/h.

The officers gave chase and observed several risky overtaking maneuvers that endangered uninvolved road users. The young man was stopped near Traiskirchen on the (A2 southern motorway). The police confiscated his older model 3 Series BMW and also confiscated his driver’s license.

Opponent drove away
His opponent – also driving a 3 Series BMW – escaped the officers – initially. He was reported and it was not possible to stop him. He had accelerated his coupé to up to 212 km/h.
