The drunk driver of a car drove off the road on Sunday morning due to a microsleep and crashed into a bridge railing. This drilled into the passenger compartment. Shortly before the wreckage burst into flames, a neighbor who became aware of the bang pulled the injured woman out of the car and thus probably saved her life.
Neighbor became a lifesaver
The 33-year-old was on Easter Sunday around 7 a.m. in a 70 km/h zone on Schröttenstrasse (L601) near the “Bacherlwirt” inn (Leibnitz district) heading towards Preding when, according to her own statements, she fell asleep and drove into the bridge. “The force of the impact was so great that the railing was torn from its anchoring over a length of around ten meters, completely destroyed the engine compartment on the driver’s side and also penetrated the passenger compartment in the area of the driver’s seat. The impact caused the vehicle and the railing to collapse thrown into the stream running under the bridge,” the fire department said in a statement.
